Fortunately for gun enthusiasts, Fallout 4 offers players a wide range of ammunition options. To put it another way, there are 19 different types of conventional ammo (not including energy weapons like the laser pistol), four different kinds of Explosive ammo, three variants on Rockets, and even five varieties of Missiles. Most firearms have two or more variants of ammo, and the game offers several kinds of craftable ammunition that can’t be purchased anywhere. Let’s take a look at all of Fallout 4’s ammo variants, including how they work with every weapon class in the game. For reference, I’m using my current build, which is geared towards melee attacks rather than firearms (though I have a respectable collection of guns). It’s all straight melee from here on out, so being able to mod everything fully was crucial. I used a channeling build for all the screenshots.

Where to Buy Ammo in Fallout 4

Ammunition can be found in the common types below, typically sold by merchants. 1 to 3 ammunition packs are occasionally sold by weapon vendors. Craftable Ammunition Types Acid Rounds Explosive Rounds Incendiary Ammo 4.5mm caseless Laser Rifle Ammo Missile Launcher, High-Velocity Missiles Rocket AP Sniper Rifle Ammo Tesla.

Conventional Ammo Types the standard types of ammunition are sold by merchants in packs of 1 to 3. Ammunition traders will sell these in large quantities for considerably higher prices. Merchants that sell ammo will have an “Ammunition” line in their store containing all the available types they have for sale at that time.

Some Thoughts on Ammo Types

As mentioned above, there are a lot of different kinds of ammo that you can find throughout the Commonwealth, but what should you be looking for? Well, that all depends on what weapons you plan to use.

The basic rule is this: if you want to focus on guns, stick with conventional ammunition. If you plan on using melee weapons or explosives, make sure you have plenty of it around for your trip to the Wasteland. There are a few other things to consider when looking for specific types of ammo. For example, .38 is great all-around ammo that isn’t too expensive and does decent damage to most enemies. However, it’s not great against robots or power armor wearers, so if that’s what you’re looking for, then .45 might be a better choice.

Bullets Are The Most Common Type of Ammo

They do less damage than most other types, but they’re the cheapest and easiest to find. You’ll use this for almost any purpose during your travels. The only downside is that ammo packs contain as many as 20 bullets each (10 loose rounds), so if you like guns, then you’ll burn through them pretty quickly.
